Designing Product Packaging for the Visually Impaired

A 36 page paper discussing how graphic designers can better serve the visually impaired in designing product packages. The paper traces the difficulty the Diabetes Division of the American Federation for the Blind had in gaining any cooperation from insulin manufacturers in including tactile information for the blind on insulin vials as an example of how difficult gaining cooperation can be, despite the wealth of information available from the Royal National Institute for the Blind. A review of typography in the 20th century reveals we have moved from sans serif to more stylized forms in cycles; we are currently moving away from sans serif to forms less legible for those who are not totally blind. The paper recommends combining the Moon raised lettering system with standard styles, so that product packages can be attractive to the sighted while being functional for the visually impaired. Economic Strategy: Hollywood During the Golden Age

Ethnography -- “the study and systematic recording of human cultures” of Rubber Stamp Artists

This 11 page report discusses ethnography and serves as an ethnographic report of the unique “social world” of artists who create their art with rubber stamps. The ethnographic review of one person’s particular “social world” can be considerably simplified when one thinks more of the many passions most people hold and those in which they participate in that passion with a group of fellow enthusiasts, fans, creators, collectors. Or, they are members of distinct ethnic, religious, cultural, or social groups. In other words, people who are brought together and connected in ways that they have chosen rather than groups of people who are born into a certain group.
