Comparing and Contrasting the Concepts Used in Golf Course Designs
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 4 page paper comparing and contrasting the concepts used in golf course designs. Examples include Pebble Beach and Augusta National. The designs of golf courses have changed a great deal over the last century and a half. Original golf course designs incorporated a great deal of the natural elements present in the landscape because there were very few options available in regards to moving earth. These courses proved to be very challenging and many withstood the test of time with relatively few changes over the years, such as Pebble Beach. During the 1920s and 1930s, the “Golden Age” of golf course design occurred and such classics as Augusta National were built to accommodate the ever increasing popularity of the game. While still maintaining a natural landscape especially in regards to its fruitland past, Augusta in contrast to other courses, has undergone a great many design changes over the course of time. Most changes were in response to the increasing number of spectators which attend the Masters’ tournament held there each year while other changes were meant to keep the course challenging.
