Discrimination and "Social Democracy" in Brazil
[ send me this paper ]
(5 pp) Attempting change is always difficult; and
of course some clever soul said, the most difficult
thing to change is ones ideas or belief system.
That has certainly been true of the concept of
"social democracy" in Brazil. Emilia Viotti da
Costa examines that thought in an article entitled,
"The Myth of Racial Democracy in Brazil: A
Problem of Social Mythology."

Discrimination and Liability: An Investigation into the Backlash of Civil Rights Legislation
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page contention that the laws that were put in place immediately after the Civil War to guarantee the rights of freed slaves, and those which have been in place since to prevent discrimination, have had a tremendous societal impact. While these laws were justified by the circumstances of the time period in which they were enacted, they now translate into the liability crisis which our businesses, governments, and organizations are facing today when they try to hire or replace employees based on qualifications rather than racial, ethnic, or gender identity. Does Race Exist?
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper which argues that race does not exist. There is absolutely no physical or biological proof that race exists, and isn't the issue of race a biological one which states that one ethnic group is far different than another? Far too many people today are a vast mixture of many different ethnic backgrounds, and as such, there is little proof that there ever was anything valid in the racial assumptions. Race, for the most part, involves categorizing individuals based on physical structure, hair styles, clothes, and language. The literature provided illustrates that there is no proof that race, in the true sense of the word, exists. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

opinions of these two authors, specific to the subject of abortion
(Dworkin) and justice (Boxill). Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Ebonics: An Ineffective and Inappropriate Form of Multicultural Communication
[ send me this paper ]
A 7 page discussion of ebonics, a term coined by linguist Robert L. Williams in 1975 by combining the words ebony and phonics. Ebonics has invoked considerable controversy in the last few years, in fact it has resulted in widespread laughter and satire. It is also a phenomenon which has torn our nation apart both along black and white lines of demarcation and also within the black community itself. Concludes that while ebonics might be a valued intercultural form of communication it is both inappropriate and counterproductive in use in mainstream America. Includes a one page Roman numeral outline. Bibliography lists 20 sources.

Ebonics: Against Teaching It In School
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. Ebonics, which is a word combined from "ebony" (black) and "phonics" (sounds), has been labeled a genetically based language whose roots reach back to Africa. The controversy remains an issue with deep-seated racial implications: is there a place for Ebonics in today's society, and if not, are those who refuse to recognize it as a true language guilty of racism? Economical and Political Race Issues in America Today
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper which discusses the different types of economical and political concerns which illustrate that race is still a big issue in this country. Economically it seems as though each and every study conducted, illustrates how far we are from becoming an equal society in relationship to issues of race and ethnicity.
