(5 pp) Although, the number of African American slaves grew slowly at first, by the 1680s they were essential to the economy of Virginia. During the 17th and 18th centuries, African American slaves lived in all of England's North American colonies. Before Great Britain prohibited its subjects from participating in the slave trade, between 600,000 and 650,000 Africans had been forcibly transported to North America. And that was the unfortunate beginning for African Americans in this country, and although there are indeed African Americans who have prospered with education and other professional skills, but many have not. African Ideology and Culture: Past and Continued Impacts on African Americans
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page discussion of the continued importance of Africa culture and ideology to African Americans. To these people Africa was, and will continue to be a continual theme in their culture and even their perceptions of themselves. It was the underlying commonality of their Africanness which pulled African Americans one of the most turbulent times of their history, the time of slavery. It is this same underlying theme of Africanness which continues to consolidate the African Americans and which allows them to resist total assimilation into white culture. Some suggests that the creation of Africa-centered schools would be a positive factor in the welfare of contemporary Black Americans. While the ideology and culture of Africa is something which should continue to be stressed into our future, however, the segregation of black from white in the form of Africa-centered schools would only be a regress into our past. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

African-American Ethnophaulisms
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. African-Americans have a particular history in the United States, one that reflects both a dichotomy of culture and the struggle to break free of past stereotypical molds. One of the areas in which this is duly noted is with the different names that people of all ethnic origins – including African-Americans themselves – use to identify and describe this particular race. The significance of these names, termed ethnophaulisms, is typically to single out certain characteristics that reflect poorly upon the specific ethnicity. Long considered derogatory when used by anyone, the word "nigger" represents one of the harshest ethnophaulisms, inasmuch as its negative Jim Crow roots have never been shaken. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
