The Death Of Gay Disco
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Disco's resurgence in that late 1990s has fulfilled one of popular culture's perpetual prophecies: give a particular fad twenty five years to return and when it does, it will be hotter than the first time around. Portrayed as the heart and soul of the seventies, disco was more than just a dance phenomenon; rather it defined an entire generation. However, a particular element of that generation that was responsible for giving birth to disco is nowhere to be found amidst this revival. Peter Braunstein, author of the article entitled "The Last Days of Gay Disco: The Current Disco Revival Conceals Its Homo Soul," contends that gays and lesbians founded what has come to be the legacy of the seventies. The Role of Law as a Reflection of Social Change and Society’s Attitudes: Homosexual Rights and Euthanasia in The Netherlands
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 9 page paper discussing how the homosexual right laws and euthanasia laws in The Netherlands reflect society’s attitudes. Two basic perspectives are considered in regards to the role of the law in society. One is that the role of the law is to reflect society’s attitudes and throughout the process of social change through history, so too will the law reflect these changes. On the other hand, some governments or countries believe that the role of the law is to force or control social change. In the latter case, the law may or may not change through the process of social change. In today’s society, laws generally reflect society’s attitudes and social change as can be seen in the constantly changing, amending, updating and reversal of many of the laws which used to be enforced. These transitions in the law as a reflection of social change can be seen in some of the recent changes in laws pertaining to homosexual partnerships and euthanasia in The Netherlands. Changes in the law reflect societal attitudes to the extent where countries which have changed their laws to suit society’s changing attitudes are seen as more open and accepting of societal changes than those which do not. There are also some countries in which the law remains a controlling force for social change as seen in the one child policy in China. Bibliography lists 14 sources.

The Social Development of Homosexuals Regarding 'Coming Out'
[ send me this paper ]
10 pages in length. The social development of a homosexual person relies greatly on whether or not they choose to 'come out.' It is no secret that repressed feelings by trying to be something you are not (i.e., 'straight') can do more harm than good. This is a common choice for many homosexuals because they do not want to cause strife among their family members. But the problem herein lies in the fact that they are trying to be something they are not, which could serve only to arrest their social development. Bibliography lists 9 sources.
