Cataract Surgery

Changing Attitudes Regarding Disease, Health and Wellness

This 6 page report discusses the ways that attitudes have changed regarding perceptions of disease, health, and wellness. At one time, virtually all disease was seen as something shameful and related to some type of lack of character or strength in an individual. Those beliefs than evolved into an unwavering faith in modern medicine and the assumption that anything a medical professional prescribed in terms of drugs or procedures was the only way to be healthy and physically whole. As a result, individual belief patterns regarding health and wellness became based on fear, shame, and treatment rather than on wholeness, wellness, and personal decision-making.
