Changing Attitudes Regarding Disease, Health and Wellness
[ send me this paper ]
This 6 page report discusses the ways that attitudes have changed regarding perceptions of disease, health, and wellness. At one time, virtually all disease was seen as something shameful and related to some type of lack of character or strength in an individual. Those beliefs than evolved into an unwavering faith in modern medicine and the assumption that anything a medical professional prescribed in terms of drugs or procedures was the only way to be healthy and physically whole. As a result, individual belief patterns regarding health and wellness became based on fear, shame, and treatment rather than on wholeness, wellness, and personal decision-making. That attitude has begun to change and it is not a moment too soon. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Chiropractic As A Viable Alternative To Conventional Treatment
[ send me this paper ]
10 pages in length. Chiropractic, a holistic alternative where the spine and joints are adjusted as a means by which to relieve pain, injuries and internal disorders, has long been looked upon as fringe medicine. Within the world of physical wellness, there are two very different approaches to the same goal: holistic and conventional. The two vastly diverse programs offered around the world claim to provide similar benefits; however, it is the road taken to achieve these benefits that greatly differ. Conventional medicine is geared much more toward the traditional, pharmaceutical therapy that has sustained throughout the centuries. Holistic medicine, on the other hand, utilizes a whole body, noninvasive approach in order to aid in the body's recuperation. Granted, both entities have their specific place within the innerworkings of overall wellness, yet their diversity maintains them as entirely separate entities. The writer discusses how chiropractic is gaining acceptance within the conventional medical community. Bibliography lists 12 sources.

Cost Effective Measures in Maintenance of Mental Health Treatments and Possible Alternative Therapies
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 7 page paper discussing cost effective measures in mental health treatment. The Surgeon General in the United States has issued a report which estimates that “one out of every five Americans suffers from some form of mental disorder with direct and indirect costs to society totaling nearly $200 billion a year”. In addition to the number of those considered affected by a mental health illness within the country, the range and diagnoses of mental health illnesses vary a great deal. While those with severe mental health conditions may be able to be “reliably” diagnosed and treated in the medical community, there are those who cannot afford medical mental health treatment as they may be uninsured and there are also those who may be less easily diagnosed or may be associated with mental disorders which relate to alcoholism and/or substance abuse therefore creating a large and diverse population in need of mental health care. The mental health community has also come to the realization that mental health care treatment costs are escalating while funding is not, resulting in mental health professionals seeking other more cost-effective treatments for their patients but treatments which must also maintain the effectiveness of traditional treatment as well. Since alternate treatments have been studied in the past decade, it has been found that while many alternative treatments are cost-effective, many are also as effective as traditional treatments and some have proven more-effective than traditional therapies. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
