Gender/Socially Constructed
[ send me this paper ]
A 7 page research paper that examines the concept that gender roles are socially constructed. The terms "gender" and "sex" are often used interchangeably by the public, which implies that the sex of an individual necessarily determines the way that they will behave and that the social norms regarding gender expectations are biologically controlled. Contrasting to this view, social scientists have shown that the only fact that is biologically determined is the ability to be either a mother or a father. Gender, that is, male or female behavioral norms within a given culture, are socially constructed, not biologically determined. If gender roles had a basis in human biology then men and women would behave similarly across culture boundaries and this is not the case. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Gender: Nature Or Nurture?
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. Gender issues span a significant range of concerns based upon performance, intelligence and aptitude; however, the very fundamental components of such social struggle stem from whether nature or nurture commands greater credit and why. Patriarchy has long assumed that the male gender is, by nature, regarded as superior over its female counterpart; while this mentality has been somewhat reversed in certain global communities, it still takes precedent in many others that refuse to alter centuries-worth of tradition. Of the myriad occasions for the nature/nurture argument to exist, sports and language represent two where the student might apply a combination of both aspects. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Gilman & Chopin/19th century Women
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page essay that analyzes Charlotte Perkins Gilman's The Yellow Wallpaper and Kate Chopin's The Story of an Hour. Gilman's "The Yellow Wallpaper"
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page essay that discusses the short story classic. The writer argues that Charlotte Perkins Gilman's short story "The Yellow Wallpaper" can be understood as offering a multifaceted reflection of Victorian patriarchal, imperialist sensibilities as a whole. The narrative deals with the journal entries of an unnamed female protagonist, a wife and mother who descends slowly into seeming insanity. However, the implied characterization of her husband/physician John suggests a poststructuralist interpretation that pictures the narrator in the position of colonial populations who were dominated by Western Victorian men, such as John. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
